We're hiring!

The Wesley Foundation (Wesley House) campus ministry at The University of Montana, Missoula, Montana, and the Stevensville United Methodist Church, announce the opening of a shared position at both locations.  The position is for Program Director (PD) at Wesley House and Youth Ministries Coordinator (YMC) at the Stevensville UMC.  The job description for each entity is attached.  Both are half-time positions, 20 hours per week, with flexibility in meeting the needs at either location essential and encouraged.  Members of the SUMC Staff Parish Relations Committee and The Wesley House Foundation Board will conduct the job search.

The successful applicant will have the ability to minister to the diverse needs of youth from preschoolers to college students and, to develop and implement a wide range of programming from children’s vacation bible school to spiritual retreats for young adults.  And, most importantly, to offer effective Christian witness in a wide range of settings.

As the two locations are 35 miles apart, reliable transportation and a current driver's license are very important.

Compensation is as follows.  The Stevensville UMC will fund the YMC position at $1,500.00 monthly, and Wesley will fund the PD position at $750.00 monthly plus the use of their parsonage with utilities included.  No other benefits are offered.

The posted job opening will close on 30 June 2017.  Interviews for qualified candidates will proceed throughout July.  The new hire will commence their job duties at both locations ideally during the first week of August.

Mother's Day @ Stevi UMC

Lighting the way
"Our Gift to You"
Sharing joys and concerns
Sharing fellowship
Diane and Belinda share a moment
The sky is starting to clear on this beautiful spring morning as the community of faith gathered on Mother's Day!

In the worship service this Mother's Day, the community celebration was enriched by the children's anthem, "Our Gift to You" and by a reading of I Corinthians 13. The sermon was "When the truth hurts" based on Acts 7:55-60.

Thanks this morning to: Belinda Alkula, Liz Goddard, Mary Hackett, Lisa Nicholls, & Bev Schneider, (children's teachers), Theresa Tripp  (nursery), Paul Ludington (praise music), Julie Ludington (piano), Tom Bishop (video), Liz Goddard & Belinda Alkula (children's anthem), Bev Schneider (liturgist), Mitch Edgar (acolyte wrangler), Ava and Hansen (acolytes), Sharon Brown and Linda Sunderland (greeter/ushers), Ruth Cleveland & Don Nelson(offering counters), and Carole Koval, Carolyn Mickens, Dusty Schrock, & Linda Valentine (hospitality).

The Forgotten Mothers of the Bible

By Emmy R. Kegler
My childhood was composed of a simple mother-daughter relationship. I am not yet a mother myself. And until that point — in this space where I am not-still-a-child, and not-yet-a-mother — my faith brings me to a place that is not simple.

Because of my faith, my story is bound up in the story of others: Stories that filled the backgrounds of my childhood Bible, and stories that friends and family have had to bear, often without recognition or compassion.

To celebrate Mother’s Day, I begin by remembering the many biblical stories of motherhood — stories that too many of us forget, or lack words, to celebrate.

A Prayer for Mother's Day

On this Mother’s Day, we pray for women all over the world:

Mother God of Life and Spirit who created us,

knew us before we were knitted in our mother’s womb, who births in us the spirit of love and grace,
we pray this day for,

Women without access to prenatal or postnatal care.
Women without access to safe delivery.
Women who long for a baby in the womb but that day has not come.
Women who grieve a baby once in the womb but it is no more.
Women who gave birth but the baby was still.
Women with no choice for the space between and the risk it brings.
Women alone or isolated dreading the waters that break.
Women laboring, breathing, and pushing.
Women injured by birth with no repair.
Women who adopt a child.
Women who have to raise the child/children alone.
Women who place their child for adoption.

We pray these things in the name of The Living Water who births

in us abundant life.  Amen.
