This is a hopeful day for the mission and ministry of The United Methodist Church in this wide Mountain Sky Area of the United Methodist Church. Today both Conferences have voted to continue to journey together toward a shared future, in a commitment to strengthen the church’s presence in communities across Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Utah, and in Salmon, Idaho, with ministries of love, mercy, grace, and welcome, in the name of Jesus Christ, who came that we might all live life to the fullest. Over the past 6 years we have intentionally learned to work together more and more, combining resources and wisdom to renew the church and the church’s ministries. There are many examples of new and renewed ways our people and churches are making a difference in the lives of people and communities. Today both conferences have agreed to continue to search for ways we are stronger together than we are apart.
This action will be reported to the Western Jurisdictional Conference in just over 3 weeks, and it will decide whether or not to grant the permission requested.
Thank you to all the members of the Mission-Shaped Future Committee, and especially co-chairs, Janet Forbes from RMC, and Jeremy Scott from YAC, for your leadership through this process.
May God guide us in the future as in the past. May the United Methodist Church in this wide and wonderful territory, continue to see God in the world, to follow Jesus into the world, and to minister with the Holy Spirit in ways that cultivate health and life for all people and for the creation.
