Carpenters
for Christ was established in 1983 by the men of the Stevensville
Methodist Church. Over the years it has expanded to include Christian
men and women from throughout the Bitterroot valley. The mission of
Carpenters for Christ is to help Senior Citizens, single-parent
families, low-income families and the handicapped.
Our
services are extremely diverse. They include such things as
construction of wheel chair ramps, chair and bed platforms, installation
of grab bars, wall brackets and general repairs.
Membership
is strictly voluntary, with no age limit, and no dues are charged.
Members do not have to be carpenters, just willing to help.
Since
the economic collapse several years ago, Carpenters lost all funding,
and operates on a donation basis. We currently ask the people to pay for
materials with labor being free. We do not however turn anyone down if
at all possible. Since the collapse, we have refused no one and the LORD
continues to supply adequate funding.
Carpenters for Christ completed 22 projects in 2015, and nine so far in 2016.
Carpenters
for Christ currently has 7 members, with 5 active. Age and health has
dwindled our roster and threatens to disrupt our mission. We are in
desperate need of volunteers. This organization needs some younger help
especially. We need people who can donate a half-day here and there for
projects.
Current Officers for Carpenters for Christ are:
Patrick Erskine president, (406) 369-2636
Franz Erskine Vice President/Treasure,(406) 240-3055
Gene Blake, interim Secretary
We
say again, we need volunteers. Contact officers for further info or to
volunteer. No special skills are required, but are appreciated.
