We had a good turn-out today (22) on a wet, chilly Friday for the monthly UMW gathering. Thanks to Carol Gragg, Fran Jackson, and Sue Pearson for serving as hostesses and for the beautiful autumnal decorations and a delicious homemade dessert.
Acting president Carole Koval led the proceedings:
+Devotions: Bonita Ziegler read a prayer from the 1849 edition of Sacra Privata: the private meditations, devotions, and prayers of the Right Rev. T. Wilson, D.D., Lord Bishop of Sodor and Man.
+Program: Marcia Prather shared information on food insecurity and the observance of World Food Day. An exercise on how challenging it can be to use SNAP benefits for our neighbors.
+Spiritual Growth: Bev Schenider shared a reading from John 6:35 and a reading from an online devotional.
+Social Action: Hazel Smith spoke about the response by UMCOR for those affected by Hurricane Matthew in Haiti and in the southeastern US.
+UMW Reading Group: Marcia Prather informed us that the group will be meeting October 24 @ 6:00 pm. Carole Koval reminded everyone that the reading group counts as a UMW circle.
+UMW events: Belinda Alkula gave reports on the Hamilton Federated Church's women's gathering (September): the Western Mountain UMW District gathering in Salmon, ID (September); and the Yellowstone Conference UMW annual meeting at Grace UMC in Missoula (in October).
+New Circle: The weekend circle holds its first gathering on Saturday, October 22 at 9:00 am at the church.
+Special Mission Fund: the Unit approved the following -- $150 for the BUMP (Blackfoot UM Parish) Christmas shoebox effort; $200 for UMCOR's International Disaster Response (Haiti) and $150 for UMCOR's US Disaster Response for those impacted by Hurricane Matthew.
The Fall Bazaar:
+Set-up for the bazaar begins on Friday, October 28.
+Donations may be brought to the church after 9:00 am - it is helpful to price the item you bring, otherwise the workers on Friday will put what they think the item might sell for. If there is a firm price, indicate what that price is.
+Posters and other publicity is going up around the valley.
