We have a great program planned for you, covering the areas of Maternal Child Health, Poverty and Climate Justice (current Mission U study.) In the morning we will hear from Jennifer Blumberg, Executive Director of “The Nest” in St. Ignatius. The Nest is a residence that provides trauma-informed supportive services to pregnant and parenting young women and their children in Lake County. It provides instruction in parenting, gardening, cooking and other areas, preparing the young mothers for being on their own. They get help with their GED if needed, or even going on to college, in order to better provide for their children. They also have regular activities available to other young families in the area.
In
the afternoon, Alex Scranton, of Grace UMC, who is the Director of
Science and Research for Women’s Voices for the Earth will share with
us, followed by Abby Huseth who is the Action Coordinator for Emmaus
Campus Ministry at U of M.
There will be a short business meeting in the morning. We will do some business along with devotions and music, fun with Belinda Alkula throughout the day, well placed breaks, the installation of officers, memorial service, and closing worship. We will send you off with a goodie bag for your trip home.
And don’t forget breakfast and registration from 8:00 to 9:00.
We will be collecting toddler sized diapers for The Nest.
Above all, we are looking forward to seeing you all at Grace UMC on October 8, 2016.
Registration has been extended until October 4.
