Making plans for the future!

Seven men and Belinda Alkula turned on a picture-perfect March Saturday morning for breakfast (thanks, Dean Diers and Tomb Bishop), fellowship, and planning.

It was decided to continue our support of a young boy in Haiti and for the WIC program that provides services at our church on Wednesdays.

Dean reminded the group of the April 1st Spaghetti Feed & Silent Auction which will split the proceeds between youth church camp scholarships and the youth ministry effort at our church.

Belinda encouraged the men to take part in the collection of items for the UMCOR health kits (along with the UMW). Due date for the items is May 14 (Mother's Day). SUMC donations will be packaged and taken to Annual Conference in June.

Bob Edgar provided the morning's devotions. We heard several Lenten-themed jokes and then Bob shared that the focus of Lent is not in giving up something on a temporary basis but rather to remove that which comes between us and God. Taking on that which is taken that brings us closer to God is a better use of the Season of Lent.

Bob ended with the peace prayer of St. Francis of Assisi:

Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace;

Where there is hatred, let me sow love;

Where there is injury, pardon;

Where there is error, the truth;

Where there is doubt, the faith;

Where there is despair, hope;

Where there is darkness, light;

And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,

Grant that I may not so much seek

To be consoled, as to console;

To be understood, as to understand;

To be loved as to love.

For it is in giving that we receive;

It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;

And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.
