Update from Tanzania

Hi again our dear family and friends

Well it has been 2 days now so thought we would send a catch up.  The rain continues to fall.  We did get to see the sun this afternoon and that was so nice. When we traveled yesterday we had to use the "back" road as the normal road was too muddy to even try.  We want to let you know if you want to see some amazing pictures of what we have been doing, go to
austindickey.com. Our young man from Boston, Austin, has been taking some fantastic, most amazing pictures.  He has a talent and the pictures are GREAT!!

Yesterday we did go back to the village of so much need. On the way we were stopped at a police check station and the Policemen told the driver and Tim, "This is not a passenger vehicle."  We just could not see how he would say that about us all being in the back of a cattle truck.  We explained what we were doing and they let us pass. We saw 95 more people and still left many without time to see them. It was very hard leaving when they were all still sitting there.  We had to focus on on that were did serve.

Christina and Sue had a woman with an arm so swollen that what the Dr's said was immediate to hospital. The Pastor came today to tell us that her diagnosis was Cutaneous Anthrax.  We all got BIG eyes on that until Dr. Carley told us exactly what it was and that we were not in danger.  She will be in the hospital for 5 days on IV antibiotics so we provided the $50.00 to cover her care.  Think about that one and what $50.00 covers in an American hospital. God saved a life here as she would have died without treatment.  Kelly was pretty excited that she was able to pull three teeth.  Most of our patients for the day were elderly with back pain, joint pain and eye pain.  So hard for us to grasp how hard these people work their whole lives and that they start at such a young age.  There is no doubt they have pain!! Just wish there was more we could do than Ibuprofen and eye drops.  So many of they also had belly and had never been wormed.  Providing 3-4 months relief will help some.

Today was the Bible School student commissioning.  It was a ceremony of lots of music and dancing.  Really fun for all and very special for the students.  Graduation is Saturday and yours truly is the graduation speaker.  Austin and I are the only ones who are not going on this Safari and Bishop asked me today to be the guest speaker. All those years of doing this at nursing pinning will come in handy. It truly is an honor.  The rest of the day was Sakila Clinic and we were busy.  Since the sun was out and it was such a beautiful evening, we had dinner on the roof watching Kilimanjaro.  She was in full visibility and stunning to look at.

Poor Tim is suffering from beg bugs.  He says they do not itch, but he looks like he has chicken pox.  They will be doing a bug bombing to the men's dorm room before team 2 comes.  You guys owe him for being the bug guinea pig before you come. The health of the team is good and we are very blessed that no one has gotten sick.  Dr. Marcia does have a olecranon bursitis.  She must have hit it sometime, but she does not remember. She does have a very pretty purple arm.

It is the end of our day, so saying goodnight to all of you from all of us.
Mary
