Scripture Lessons for July 26th

"Gluttony" from "The Seven Deadly Sins and the Four Last Things"
by Hieronymus Bosch
This week our attention is turned toward the sin of gluttony. The scripture lessons come to us from Philippians 3:17-21 and Matthew 6:25-33

Nineteenth-century Russian Bishop Ignatius Brianchaninov said of Gluttony (today's sermon topic):

"If you please and pamper your stomach, you will hurl yourself over the precipice of bodily impurity, into the fire of wrath and fury, you will coarsen and darken your mind, and in this way you will ruin your powers of attention and self-control, your sobriety and vigilance."
