November's UMW meeting

Twenty-four turned out today on a beautiful Friday afternoon for the monthly gathering of the Stevi UMC United Methodist Women.

Thanks to Mary Costello and Charlene Siphers for providing the amazing refreshments for us!

Belinda Alkula led the devotions, a sharing from I Thessalonians 5:18 which she read to us from the King James Version, the New Revised Standard Version, and The Message.

Bonita Ziegler shared today's program about the UMW's World Thank Offering. Members were invited to share what they were thankful for and to bring an offering for missions to a special table.

In recognition of Veteran's Day, we recited the Pledge of Allegiance and sang, "America the Beautiful."

In the day's business, elections were held for the four Unit leadership positions. The slate of officers for 2017 are:
President: Belinda Alkula
Vice-President: Carol Gragg
Treasurer: Bonita Ziegler
Secretary: Linda K. Kauffman

In other reports:

+Social Action: Hazel Smith made an appeal for the BUMP Christmas shoe box effort. Last year we sent eighty-five boxes to Browning and we've only gotten fifteen turned in so far this year. The deadline for turning in the shoe boxes to the church is November 27.
+Spiritual Growth: Bev Schneider asked us to consider two thoughts: How will I follow Christ today? and Christ is still speaking, today I will be quiet and listen. Bev read to us from Psalm 1:3-4 and shared a reflection from James Chrisensen's Creative Ways to Worship.
+Receptions: Bonita Ziegler reminded us that Emma Ludington's wedding is next month and help will be needed for her reception.
+Membership: We are thrilled to welcome three new members to our Unit: Theresa Jenner, Denise Meeks, and Dusty Schrock!
+Prayer Shawls: Carole Koval mentioned that supplies of our shawls is getting low. The church conference report will show that we've given fourteen shawls in 2016 and 211 since this ministry began.

Missions:
+The Clothes Closet is looking for volunteers for the annual shopping day (Dec. 10) the organization hosts for children. Donated items - wrapping paper, gift bags/boxes, and new items for gifts may be brought to the church or taken to the Clothes Closet by December 7. Contact Gail Fisher if interested in helping.
+$200 was designated to support the Clothes Closet's appeal for underwear to be given to its clients.
+Year-end giving will be discussed (along with the budget for 2017) at the Unit's leadership meeting on November 21.

The gathering was concluded with a singing of "Bind Us Together," quite fitting given our nation's collective mood.

Coming up:
Our next meeting is December 9 which is sure to be the highlight of our year with a very musical afternoon planned.
