Yellowstone Annual Conference: Day 1 (morning)

Welcome to YAC!
Prayer walk station
UMCOR layette kits from SUMC
Missional listening
Conference choir during the memorial service
The 2016 Yellowstone Annual Conference (YAC) got underway this morning with Mission Engagement workshops.

Participants in one of the optional exercises were able to experience "Prayer Walks," walking the neighborhood and praying for the community. The other session was engaging in active listening, the example this morning was with two participants in the Committee on Native American Ministries (Yellowstone Conference).

Pastor Charles delevered fifteen UMCOR layette kits to the rapidly growing pile being contributed by UMW members from around the conference.

We wrapped up the first part of this year's YAC with the memorial worship service where eleven YAC clergy or spouses were remembered.

Annual Conference Mission Project

This year Yellowstone Conference will collect the contents of layette kits for the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) West Depot in Salt Lake City.  Each church can decide whether to collect all the items needed for a kit, or to focus on two or three items. All items should be brought to Annual Conference in June. Items will be delivered to the depot in July.  You can find the list of contents of the kit here.

Some important things to remember:
  • All items must be new.
  • Do not wash any of the items as they will then be considered used.
  • All emergency kits are carefully planned to make them usable in the greatest number of situations. Since strict rules often govern product entry into international countries, it is important that kits contain only the requested items, nothing more.
  • Do not include any personal notes, money, or additional material in the kits. These things must be painstakingly removed and will delay the shipment.

Among many notable facts about Charline was her service as Conference UMW president for eight years. Reports were heard including a prayer shawl that was passed around the members for a friend of Carole Koval who is dealing with cancer treatments.

Bev Schneider had this month's spiritutal growth reflection that was based on Matthew 13:3-4, 17-22, the Parable of the Sower. Bev also shared some of the lessons from Vivian Clark's book, " 12 Lessons on Life I Learned from My Garden."

Hazel Smith brought the social action report from the UMW's Social Action Network on "The fight for $15" and the struggle to live on today's minimum wage.

Marcia Prather reminded everyone that it isn't too late to take part in the 2016 UMW Reading Program. Forms are available from Marcia and some of the possible books are in our library.
