Chrismons
are special ornaments that remind us of the true meaning of the
Christmas season. Each Chrismon represents Jesus Christ: His life,
ministry, nature or teaching. The dictionary defines a Chrismon as “a
monogram of Christ.”
A Christmas tree decorated with Christian symbols is known as a Chrismon tree.
The evergreen tree symbolizes eternal life, providing a background for
the white lights that proclaim Jesus is the light of the world, and the
Chrismon ornaments declare His name, life and saving acts.
We
plan to have a Chrismon tree this year by the communion table, and want
and hope that YOU can & will participate by making some ornaments!
On Monday (starting at 10 am), we’re cutting out the forms. Then people can take materials home, to decorate & finish.
The
set shown above is not necessarily what will be used, as there are many
patterns for Chrismon ornaments – some simple, others complicated – so
please come & help! We’ll have at least one more work day, but the
ornaments need to be done by 11/30/14.
