30 Days of Listening: Day 4

Today's practice in listening comes from Henri J.M. Nouwen, a Dutch Catholic priest, professor, writer and theologian.

He suggests this exercise for discernment in his book, "Reading the Signs of Daily Life":

Walk with friends through the woods. Find a trail and set out on a journey in search of beauty. Instead of having a conversation, withhold your words and keep silent. Observe and be present to what you see and hear. Drink deeply from the well of creation.

Though we many not all have wooded trails easily accessible, perhaps you can find another place to walk, where you might observe and listen to creation. What did you hear, see and learn?
