Devotional for Dec. 1

December 1st

God Is our refuge and strength therefore we will not fear, though the earth will change. Psalms 46:1-2

I Love Children! Often they know more than their parents, grandparents and teachers. Children accept that there are things that we can’t see or control. They keep things simple. They are positive and eager for knowledge.

Each day is a new learning experience for each child. It’s all about "them". They do not worry about their "path in life". They believe each day their needs will be met. Children just enjoy each day they are given. They love nature, bugs, butterflies, grass, water, dirt, and talking to anyone that will listen. They overlook messes, color of skin, wealth, poverty, disability, material stuff, and prestige. They read faces and actions of others. Examples might be: smiles, hugs, tears, sneers, loneliness, bad behavior, and the precious gift of time. Children love without judgment. Sometimes they misjudge but hopefully an adult is at the child’s side to keep them safe.

Wouldn’t it be wonderful if adults could trust in God’s words like a child?

We know that in Psalm 16:11 God promises to lay out a path for each of us. Do you believe that? Are we on the right path?

In Deuteronomy 6:5 we are told "we should love our God with all our heart and with all our soul and with all our might". Do we? Are we thanking God for the riches he has provided?

And finally, Matthew 21-23 an angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph saying, "…Joseph son of David do not be afraid to take Mary as your wife; for the Child who has been conceived in her is the son of the Holy Spirit. Vs. 22 now all this took place to fulfill what was spoken by the Lord through the prophet. Vs.23 "Behold, the Virgin shall be with Child and shall bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel," which translated means, "GOD WITH US".

May we be more like a child this advent season and live in the present and not worry about our tomorrows. Amen
