Advent Devotional - December 4

Today is the Day to Celebrate

"In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was
with God, and the Word was God." - John 1:1

I love the season of Advent, the joy of awaiting the arrival of the Christ Child. 800 years before the birth of Jesus, the prophet Isaiah predicted the glorious event in Isaiah 9:6 - "For a child has been born for us , a son given to us,; authority rests upon his shoulders and he is named Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace."

As I celebrate, I remember and am filled with wonder that the arrival of the baby Jesus, fully human, is only part of the story. We know that Christ, fully God, never really "arrived," because He has always been and always will be as John 1:1 attests. Toward the end of his time on earth, Jesus promised, "And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the earth" (Matthew 28:2). In Hebrews 13:8, Paul says, "Jesus Christ is the same, yesterday, today, and forever." This is something to celebrate every day of our lives! And beyond...

Let the celebration proceed! Sing, shout, feel the joy! Whatever come, whatever goes, and we always have the love and promise of Jesus. What else do you need?
