Advent Devotional for December 18th

Holiday Homecoming by Currier & Ives
Advent is a time of happiness and anticipation. We are waiting for the greatest gift of all – God’s gift of Jesus given to you and to me because He loves each one of us, and wants our salvation. The wise men brought gifts to honor the infant. It is tradition to give gifts to show love and caring.

One of the traditions I uphold is making the family recipe of "Irish whipped cream chocolates." It has been handed down in my husband’s family for over 150 years, and is time consuming and difficult to make. I make it only at Christmas. Our family dearly loves this candy and when talking to grandchildren in October, they inquire, "Gran, have you started making the Christmas candy yet?" Finally the candy is done and sent to them. Our children call and say, "Mom, the candy is here; it arrived today. Thank you; Christmas would not be the same without it." Each person gets two pieces of candy a day as it is cherished and made to last as long as possible. We should do the same with Christmas – spread love and joy not only one day but all year.

"Love came down at Christmas
Love all lovely; love divine
Love was born at Christmas
Star and angels gave the sign."
