The evening before the November 9th United Methodist Men’s meeting, Hazel Smith called and asked if she could come to our meeting and tell us about "The Sharing Tree" sponsored by the Acts of Kindness organization. Hazel was certainly Jesus Christ’s messenger to this group of men as she told about the needs of 204 families representing 408 children in the area. These children are in need of all kinds of clothes from underwear and socks to coats, hats, and mittens. Hazel told us tags will be available November 17 – 24 with specific items and size needed for individual children.
After Hazel’s moving presentation, Jesus was in the hearts of the men present. I know I had moist eyes as I thought about kids without adequate clothing, especially in cold weather. Without hesitation, those six men approved a motion to give 101.00 from the United Methodist Men to the leader of Acts of Kindness to purchase item for about four children.
This moment of needs and generosity, reminded me of how blessed most of us are and how generous most people are when they are aware of people in need. Thanks to the leaders of the " Sharing Tree" effort, I and many others in this Church will be able to pick up tag and go shopping for children with urgent authenticated needs. On the flip side, I am very thankful that our three grown children can adequately clothe our seven grandchildren. Thank you, Jesus, for moving us to help those in need and appreciate our blessings.
