Advent Devotional for the Third Sunday of Advent

I trust that as you read (and perhaps sing) these words during this Advent season that you will be inspired by Joseph’s faith and example and seek to serve God the Father, the Holy Spirit by whom Mary came to be with child, and Jesus, the Son, who became human that we might have forgiveness of sin.

Sung to the tune, "Good King Wenceslas" written by David Paul

Joseph was a righteous man, waiting for the Savior, served the Lord in truth ad faith; Sought the Lord’s good favor. Came to him in a dream by night with a wond’rous story: That the Child in Mary’s womb was the King of Glory.

Trusting in the angel’s word, Joseph wedded Mary, Travelled they to Bethlehem, thither for to tarry. There she bore the Holy Child, in a lowly stable. Joseph and his virgin wife worshipped at his cradle.

Blessed Joseph in a dream heard th’ angelic warning: Took his wife and infant son; fled the land ere morning. Travelled they to Egypt land as the Lord had bidden And the child whom Herod sought thus was safely hidden.
